How the Dow Jones industrial average fared Monday – Chron.com

U.S. stocks closed lower Monday following weak Chinese trade data and more worries about Greece’s finances. Greece’s new prime minister said over the weekend that he would push for a short-term loan to give the country and its creditors time to negotiate a new arrangement to replace its financial bailout program.

On Monday:

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 95.08 points, or 0.5 percent, to 17,729.21

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 8.73 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 2,046.74.

The Nasdaq composite fell 18.39 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,726.01.

For the year:

The Dow is down 93.86 points, or 0.5 percent.

The S&P 500 index is down 12.16 points, or 0.6 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 10.04 points, or 0.2 percent.
